MicroDuck · Servo Lab

The cheap servo has five ways to fail

Mounting geometry, connector pinout, bus protocol, firmware support and gait policy. Each is a separate axis, and a paper match on torque does not clear any of them.

No ANHOT bench test exists yet. The comparison below is a paper analysis of vendor and community sources. Spec matching is not compatibility. Do not power a mixed build from an untested policy.

Supplier listings describe a 6 V, 10 kg·cm, metal-gear, dual-shaft TTL bus servo marketed for MicroDuck-style joints. Torque and voltage are in the same class as the reference actuator, but mounting geometry, connector pinout, packet protocol and closed-loop behaviour differ. No ANHOT bench or robot test has been run. This is a paper comparison only.

Required before claiming this works
  • Redesign or reprint servo mounts and horns for a different mounting pattern.
  • Select and wire a bus adapter/controller bridge for the Feetech protocol.
  • Build and continuity-test a connector harness; verify pinout and polarity.
  • Port the servo driver and validate feedback scaling in firmware.
  • Retrain or retune the locomotion policy; do not run the original policy untested.

What would change our conclusion

  • A bench record with the exact servo model, bus adapter, firmware revision and load fixture.
  • Measured stall torque and speed at the actual operating voltage, with method and instrument.
  • Connector pinout, wire gauge and polarity verified against both vendors' drawings.
  • A robot test with the adapted policy, including failure modes and thermal observations.
  • Independent replication by a second builder using the same parts and procedure.

Until then, the correct label is “spec matched”. We will not upgrade it because a supplier says it works.
